The Lenovo result is probably down to the fact that China processes nearly all waste electronics worldwide anyway. Lenovo can offer that service for nothing and still make a profit (or at least break even). I can't remember the name of it, but there's a big city in the SE of China where the main industry is reclaiming electronic components - a dirty, smelly job that literally causes cancer in many of the workers.
